Talks that Make You Think:  Monday, March 29th
Dr. Bill Nietman, retired NAU Philosophy professor
Jesus: The Cloistered Christ

This (Holy Week) was a week like no other for the first disciples of Jesus—there was likely no week where they asked more questions about who Jesus was and what that meant for their lives.  Professor Nietmann will shed some light on where their  (first century Roman Empire) ideas emerged from socially, politically and philosophically.  Jesus proposed a radical idea that challenged the Romany Empire.  How did Jesus and his idea of agape clash with the ancient world’s Platonistic hermeneutic?  Leaning on the works of Kierkegaard, Heidegger and others, he will contrast Jesus’ idea of agape with Platonism and what that meant for the ancient world.  Professor Nietmann assures us that it is an extended discussion—we are at the edge!

Mondays in April 7:30 at the Campus Ministry Center

Open Hearts     Open Minds      Open Doors

We are a student organization at NAU sponsored by the Disciples of Christ, Presbyterian Church USA, United Church of Christ, and the United Methodist Church. We welcome all who seek to follow, understand, and live the Way of Jesus of Nazareth: a way of forgiveness, worship, prayer, hope in the midst of sorrow, joy, patience, enduring-love, simple fellowship, authentic friendships, peace and justice, ministry to the poor and friendless, dinner with friends, and welcoming the stranger.   All are welcome here.
